Mexico is poised to achieve 35% of total energy to be generated by renewable energy by 2024

Mexico City – The goals set in the National Strategy for Energetic Transition and Sustainable Energy Efficiency of covering 35% of electric power consumed in Mexico with the generation of renewable sources by 2024 is feasible, Leopoldo Rodriguez Olive, Chairman of the Mexican Aeolian Power Association, Asociacion Mexicana de Energia Eolica (AMDEE), assured.
Clean energies went up over 18% in the last two years; for in 2009 they were barely 7.3% of total power generated, while the rest came from fossil fuel.
According to ProMexico, in 2010 US$2.320 billion were received in Foreign Direct Investment for Aeolian and geothermal projects, for a 348% increase over 2009.
In even term, clean power production sources reached 24.2% of total power (13,210 megawatts) and for this year 26% coverage is expected to be reached between hydroelectric plants and Aeolian Parks.
